Kai Sotto returns to Gilas Pilipinas for FIBA World Cup Qualifiers

Kai Sotto has returned to the Gilas Pilipinas national basketball team for the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers. The 7-foot-3 center is returning after a two-year absence caused by a torn ACL in his left knee.

Sotto’s return comes at a critical juncture for the Philippines, which currently holds a 2–6 record in Group E. The team is aiming to climb into the top four during upcoming matches against Jordan on August 28 and Iran on August 30 at the Mall of Asia Arena. The squad faces additional challenges as naturalized player Justin Brownlee is expected to miss the window due to lower-leg injuries.

Sotto noted that his personal life has also changed, stating that he is married and expecting his first child, which has provided him with renewed motivation. He expressed a desire to win for his family and his country, acknowledging the heavy pressure of the upcoming must-win games.
