KAI Yogyakarta records 342,000 passengers during holiday surge

Indonesia's state railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Daerah Operasi 6 (Yogyakarta) reported that 342,195 long‑distance passengers used its services between 26 May and 1 June 2026, covering the Idul Adha and Pancasila Day holidays. The total reflects a 45 % increase over the same period a week earlier.

Of the passengers, 164,737 departed and 177,458 arrived at stations within the Daop 6 area. Yogyakarta’s Tugu Station was the busiest, handling 78,864 arrivals and 86,206 departures. The surge was driven by the city’s popularity as a tourist destination, with visitors coming for cultural, natural and culinary attractions. To celebrate the holiday period, KAI provided live entertainment, including a performance by the Atmajaya Choir at the station.

KAI officials highlighted the rise as evidence of growing public confidence in rail travel, noting the service’s punctuality, comfort and ongoing facility upgrades. They urged passengers to observe safety rules and respect staff directions.
