Kairouan hosts international Mawlid al-Nabi celebrations

The city of Kairouan is hosting the ninth edition of international celebrations for Mawlid al-Nabi, the observance of the Prophet Muhammad's birthday. The festivities include the 'Sfaxian procession,' a spiritual event featuring over 100 Sufi chanters who marched from the Uqba ibn Nafi Mosque to the shrine of Abu Zam'a al-Balawi.

To accommodate tens of thousands of expected visitors from across Tunisia and abroad, local authorities have implemented exceptional measures. These include enhanced security, traffic management, and increased health services. To ensure market stability, officials have secured additional supplies of essential goods, such as flour, sugar, and bottled water.

Religious activities in the region have seen a significant increase this year, with 364 scheduled events. The celebrations also feature national exhibitions of traditional crafts and various cultural and historical programs designed to highlight Kairouan's religious and civilizational heritage.
