Kaiserin Augusta Denkmal balcony expected to reopen in late September

The historical viewing balcony at the Kaiserin Augusta Denkmal in Koblenz is expected to reopen to the public by the end of September. Following the completion of earthworks and concrete construction, the natural stone structure is taking shape at its new location.

The balcony was closed in 2023 for safety reasons after stones fell from the wall and the railing tilted inward. As part of the renovation, officials decided to relocate the balcony approximately two meters toward the Rhine to accommodate the growing root systems of nearby protected plane trees.

Upcoming work includes the restoration of the two staircases on either side of the balcony and the removal of construction fences. While the balcony and stairs are expected to be accessible by late September, the final surface finishing will be completed at a later date.
