Kaishu Sano transfer status remains uncertain at Mainz 05

The future of Japanese midfielder Kaishu Sano at 1. FSV Mainz 05 remains a focal point as the Bundesliga transfer window approaches its close. Mainz has reportedly set August 27 as a deadline for potential negotiations to ensure the club has sufficient time to secure a successor if Sano is sold.

Sports director Christian Heidel indicated that while the club is prepared to accept an offer they cannot refuse—rumored to be in the range of 50 million to 60 million euros—they are also content to keep him. Heidel previously noted that a transfer fee of 25 million euros would be insufficient for the club.

Despite interest from clubs such as Liverpool FC, Newcastle United, and RB Leipzig, concrete negotiations at the high valuation levels have not materialized. Manager Urs Fischer stated that Sano has completed final training and is looking forward to starting in the upcoming season opener against Paderborn, suggesting he is likely to remain with the club for the time being.
