KAIST President Bae Chung-sik announces AI-driven global innovation vision

Bae Chung-sik, the 18th President of KAIST, officially inaugurated his term by announcing a new vision: "Fundamentals First, Innovation Forward." His goal is to transform KAIST into a global leading university driven by AI innovation and strong foundational principles.

To achieve this, Bae introduced the "Beyond 5" development strategy, which focuses on five key pillars: "Beyond AI" (expanding AI usage across all disciplines), "Beyond Laboratory" (promoting innovative research and entrepreneurship), "Beyond Barriers" (creating an efficient, open university), "Beyond Carbon" (prioritizing eco-friendliness and sustainability), and "Beyond KAIST" (strengthening global cooperation).

A central component of this vision is the establishment of an "AI Native Campus." This includes implementing AI-interactive education, developing "AI Autonomous Labs" for research, and transitioning to an "AI Agent" administrative system to improve efficiency. Bae also emphasized fostering a global startup ecosystem and strengthening research in strategic technologies such as robotics, autonomous driving, and quantum computing.
