Kaizer Chiefs defeat Scottland FC to win Toyota Cup

Kaizer Chiefs lifted the 2026 Toyota Cup after a 1‑0 victory over Zimbabwean side Scottland FC at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg on 26 July 2026. The only goal came in the 17th minute when midfielder Mfundo Vilakazi capitalised on an early chance to give the Amakhosi the lead.

Coach Fernando Da Cruz, who used the pre‑season match to assess his squad, noted that the win provides a confidence boost ahead of the upcoming Betway Premiership season. He also highlighted the need to reinforce the attack, stating the club is targeting a new striker, additional wingers and a creative midfielder. Da Cruz confirmed that winger Glody Lilepo and midfielder Thabo Cele are no longer in his plans.

The match also featured an injury to defender Bradley Cross, who left the field before halftime, and showcased the fitness advantage of Scottland FC, which had already started its domestic season. Despite the opposition’s stronger match‑sharpness, Kaizer Chiefs controlled the game and held on for the narrow win, which they hope will translate into success in the forthcoming league campaign.
