Kaizer Chiefs youngsters shine for South Africa U20s
Kaizer Chiefs academy prospects Takalani Mazhamba and Steven Mendes have drawn attention following standout performances for South Africa’s U20 national team, Amajita, during the COSAFA tournament.
Mazhamba, the youngest goalkeeper to feature for Kaizer Chiefs in the Premier Soccer League era, was named the tournament’s goalkeeper of the competition after conceding only three goals in five matches. He expressed a desire to gain further international experience as Amajita prepares to defend their continental title at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana next year.
Midfielder Steven Mendes earned the COSAFA U20 Golden Boot for his scoring prowess during the regional tournament. Following his success, DStv Diski Challenge coach Vela Khumalo highlighted Mendes as a special talent with the potential to transition into the Kaizer Chiefs senior squad.
