Kajari Teej 2026: Observance and rituals for August 31

Kajari Teej, a festival observed in North Indian states, will be celebrated on August 31, 2026. The festival, also known as Badi Teej or Satudi Teej, falls on the Tritiya तिथि of the Krishna Paksha in the Bhadrapada month.

Traditionally, the festival involves the worship of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Married women observe a fast to pray for marital bliss, prosperity, and the well-being of their children. Unmarried women perform rituals to seek a desired life partner. A key tradition is 'Ratjaga', where women stay awake all night on the preceding night, August 30, to sing hymns and perform devotional activities.

Rituals often include offering sixteen items of adornment to Goddess Parvati, reciting the Parvati Chalisa, and donating items such as milk, curd, ghee, and sugar to the needy to strengthen the position of Venus in one's horoscope. In some regions, the worship of Neem trees is also practiced.
