Kajtek i Koko return to space in new comic book series
The iconic Polish comic book characters Kajtek and Koko are returning to space in a new series titled ‘Kajtek i Koko w kosmosie. Nowe przygody. W próżnej próżni’. This release marks the first of two volumes in a brand-new story for the legendary characters originally created by Janusz Christa.
Written by Maciej Kur and illustrated by Mieczysław Fijał, the new series aims to remain faithful to the spirit and visual style of the original works. The plot follows the two sailors on a rescue mission involving new planets, spacecraft, and extraterrestrial inhabitants. The visual presentation includes coloring by Tomasz Piorunowski, intended to complement Fijał’s art style.
Kajtek and Koko, who debuted in 1958, are considered foundational figures in Polish comics and served as the chronological predecessors to the famous ‘Kajko i Kokosz’ series. Their original space saga, published between 1968 and 1972, remains the longest Polish science fiction comic to date. The new album and an author meeting are scheduled to debut at the 37th International Comics and Games Festival in Łódź.
