Kakao appoints Kim Do-young as CA Council co-chair ahead of spin-off

Kakao has appointed Kim Do-young, the incoming CEO of Kakao X, as the co-chair of its CA Council. Kim will lead the group's highest decision-making body alongside current Chairperson Jung Shin-a to ensure organizational stability and continuity during the company's upcoming corporate spin-off.

The company is preparing to split into two distinct entities: Kakao AI and Kakao X. Kakao AI, led by Jung Shin-a, will manage AI, advertising, and commerce businesses centered around KakaoTalk. Kakao X will operate as an investment company overseeing tech-fin, content, and mobility sectors. The spin-off ratio is set at 0.36 for Kakao AI and 0.64 for Kakao X based on the book value of net assets.

Kakao is currently utilizing task forces focused on technology, finance, and human resources to manage the transition. An extraordinary general shareholders' meeting is scheduled for December 17, with the spin-off expected to be finalized on January 1, 2025. Following the split, the company aims to proceed with the re-listing of Kakao AI and the change in listing for Kakao X on January 27.
