Kakao Games targets Q2 2027 Steam launch for ArcheAge S

Kakao Games has announced that the upcoming PC MMORPG, ArcheAge S: Strait of Freedom, is scheduled for a global launch on Steam in the second quarter of 2027. Developed by XLGAMES, the title aims to build upon the core identity of the original ArcheAge while reinterpreting elements for modern audiences.

The project is led by producer Kyung-tae Kim, who previously served as the lead game designer and producer for the original ArcheAge. The new title is expected to expand the franchise's scope from land-based combat to include naval warfare, as reflected in its recently revealed brand identity and key visuals which feature nautical themes such as navigation and ocean imagery.

A developer preview video is expected to be released later this month. This video will feature members of the development team discussing their design philosophy and will showcase previously unseen gameplay footage.
