Kakao Games unveils Realm of Dokkaebi MMORPG

Kakao Games has unveiled its upcoming MMORPG, ‘Realm of Dokkaebi’, which is scheduled for an official launch in October. Developed by Supercat, the game is based on the Korean mythical creature Dokkaebi and utilizes a 2.5D visual style that combines 2D pixel-art characters with 3D backgrounds and real-time lighting.

The title features an infinite skill deck-building system allowing players to combine 12 different skill styles regardless of character class. It also includes an optional player-versus-player (PvP) system and an artificial intelligence assistant designed to provide information based on user activity data. The game’s universe is adapted from the web novel ‘Myeolgwi Sudojeon’.

Kakao Games co-CEO Lee Si-woo stated that the game aims to preserve the fundamental fun of MMORPGs with a modern sensibility, noting its potential to appeal to both domestic and global audiences. The launch comes as the company seeks a turnaround following seven consecutive quarters of operating losses, including a 23 billion won loss in the second quarter of this year.
