Kakao Games, XL Games Announce 2027 ArcheAge S: Strait of Freedom

Kakao Games and development partner XL Games announced ArcheAge S: Strait of Freedom, a new PC‑only MMORPG slated for launch in 2027. The project is led by Kim Kyung‑tae, who was the lead designer of the original ArcheAge released in 2013, and is supported by Kakao Games co‑CEO Siwoo Lee and XL Games CEO Kwan‑ho Choi. Both executives said the title will preserve the core identity of the original game while delivering a fresh experience for modern players, emphasizing large‑scale PvP combat.

ArcheAge S joins other titles in the franchise, including the upcoming ArcheAge Chronicles and the 2023 ArcheAge War mobile‑PC hybrid. The original ArcheAge servers were shut down after more than a decade of service, and the new release aims to revive the series for a global audience.
