Kakao Group expands digital asset alliances for KRW stablecoin
Kakao Group, comprising Kakao, KakaoBank, and KakaoPay, has announced an expansion of its digital asset partnerships to build a comprehensive ecosystem for Korean Won (KRW) stablecoins. The group is forming alliances with both domestic and international partners to cover issuance, distribution, payment, remittance, and financial services.
On the international front, Kakao is collaborating with Southeast Asian platform Grab and Thai financial holding company SCBX to explore cross-border payment and remittance models connecting Korea and Southeast Asia. The group has also previously established ties with Circle Internet Group and Fireblocks to strengthen its digital asset infrastructure.
Domestically, Kakao is working with Kyobo Life Insurance on proof-of-concept (PoC) projects for digital asset-based financial services and has partnered with Bonanza Factory to develop virtual asset services with a focus on anti-money laundering (AML) compliance. The group aims to prepare the technical and business foundations necessary to launch these services rapidly once relevant legal frameworks and regulations are established.
