Kakao Group posts record H1 profits as finance services surge

Kakao Pay reported a record first‑half with revenue of 6.354 trillion won, operating profit of 908 billion won and net profit of 843 billion won, a 41 % rise in revenue year‑on‑year. In the second quarter its financial‑services segment grew 75 % to 1.752 trillion won, accounting for 52 % of total revenue. The company also announced plans to launch a Korean‑won stablecoin, developing both issuance infrastructure and distribution channels.

Kakao Bank posted its strongest half‑year results, posting net profit of 3.280 trillion won, up 24.4 % from a year earlier, driven by higher fee income (169.6 billion won) and treasury gains (169.8 billion won). The bank’s loan‑comparison and investment services expanded, with loan‑arranged volume reaching 1.56 trillion won.

Kakao Games saw a contrasting performance, with Q2 revenue of 750 billion won and an operating loss of 230 billion won, a 35.2 % decline in revenue from the prior year.

Separately, Kakao’s leadership said the group will not enter the capital‑intensive AI‑infrastructure market, opting instead to embed AI services in its KakaoTalk messenger and aim to monetize those features by 2027.
