Kakinada nursing college clash involves Northeast and local students

A violent confrontation broke out at the SK College of Nursing in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, between local Telugu-speaking students and students from Northeast India, including those from Manipur. The clash, which occurred on August 21, was reportedly triggered by the disappearance of a mobile phone belonging to a Northeast student.

During the altercation, students used sticks, slippers, and buckets to attack one another, resulting in injuries to several Northeast students. The situation prompted immediate intervention from the district administration, including the District Collector and the Superintendent of Police.

To prevent further unrest, authorities relocated 31 students from various states to a separate hostel and moved Northeast students to different accommodations. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the incident and directed officials to ensure student safety. Former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh also contacted the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister’s Office to coordinate security measures. Authorities have since reported that the situation is under control and security, including the deployment of a female sub-inspector, has been established.
