Kakuzi Plc implements wage increases and expands Ag-Tech adoption

Agribusiness firm Kakuzi Plc has signed a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the Kenya Plantation and Agricultural Workers Union (KPAWU), providing more than 3,500 employees with a 15% general wage increase. The increments will be implemented in stages, with an 8% increase in 2026 and a further 7% in 2027.

Alongside these labor developments, Kakuzi is accelerating its digital transformation by establishing a dedicated Digital Agricultural Transformation Department. The company is integrating agricultural technology (Ag-Tech) to improve efficiency and adapt to unpredictable climatic patterns. Current technological deployments include Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning, and data analytics. Notably, the firm has installed an AI-powered Intelligent Optical Sorting system at its macadamia processing plant and is utilizing drone-based security surveillance in its fields.
