Kalabaka schools closed for Saint Vissarion holiday

Schools in the Kalabaka region of Greece remained closed on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, due to a local holiday celebrating Saint Vissarion, the patron saint of the city.

While the new school year officially began on Monday, September 14, students in Kalabaka are scheduled to return to classrooms on Wednesday, September 16, following the conclusion of religious festivities. The celebrations centered around the Holy Metropolitan Church of Saint Vissarion, featuring the special transfer of a sacred relic from the Holy Monastery of Dousiko to Kalabaka for public veneration.
