Kalamaria signs contract for Pontou Street redevelopment project
A contract has been signed for the redevelopment and opening of Pontou Street in Kalamaria, Thessaloniki. The project, described as a major urban renewal, is closely linked to the extension of the Thessaloniki Metro, as four of the five new metro stations are located along this road.
The project has a total budget of approximately 24.7 million euros. It involves the construction of a 2.5-kilometer road featuring modern traffic infrastructure, wide sidewalks, a bicycle path, and a 10-meter wide central green strip with seven roundabouts. The works are expected to alleviate traffic on major local arteries and improve access to the airport and eastern Thessaloniki.
AKTOR has been named the contractor. While some reports suggest a 9-month construction duration for specific phases, the broader project timeline aims for completion by the end of 2028, aligned with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport’s 2026–2030 development program. The Municipality of Kalamaria will handle road maintenance, while EYATH S.A. will manage the networks after delivery.
