Kalamata Basket launches following merger of two local clubs

Kalamata Basket has officially launched its new era following the merger of Kalamata ’80 and Kalamata BC. The newly formed organization held a traditional blessing ceremony at the ‘Tenta’ Municipal Gymnasium to mark the start of the season in the National League 2.

Led by head coach Alexis Korogonas, the team aims to establish a stable and competitive presence in the league. The roster consists of 16 players, focusing on a philosophy that combines local Messenian talent, such as Ilias Karakaxis and Alexandros Konstantinou, with experienced athletes like Ilias Christopoulos and Nektarios Karagellis.

Local officials, including Deputy Mayor Georgios Lazaridis, expressed support for the merger, noting that the unified strength of the two clubs will benefit basketball in the region. The team is also planning a tournament in memory of Giannis Kutrafouris to honor his contributions to the sport.
