Kalamata event to promote food waste reduction in hospitality

To mark World Food Day, WWF Greece, the Captain Vassilis & Carmen Konstantakopoulou Foundation, and Costa Navarino are organizing an event in Kalamata on October 15 focused on reducing food waste within the hospitality sector.

The event will feature data from WWF Greece regarding the multifaceted impacts of food waste. Additionally, chefs from Costa Navarino will present a best practices guide, and Executive Chef Nikos Billis of W Costa Navarino will demonstrate creative techniques used in their restaurants to minimize waste.

Globally, approximately one-third of food produced for consumption—nearly 1.3 billion tonnes annually—is wasted. This volume could theoretically meet the needs of the 820 million undernourished people four times over. In Europe, while households are major contributors, 47% of food waste occurs along the supply chain, including food processing, hospitality services, primary production, and retail.
