Kalamata municipality adds six new waste trucks, sweepers and JCB excavator

The municipality of Kalamata received six new pieces of waste‑collection equipment under a €3.1 million leasing contract. The delivery includes three garbage trucks with capacities of 6, 12 and 16 cubic metres, two sweepers of 4 and 6 cubic metres, and a 110‑horsepower JCB backhoe loader.

Mayor Thanasios Vasilopoulos said the acquisition brings the council "the most modern mechanical equipment it has ever had" and highlighted the ongoing effort to renew a fleet that now numbers about 130 vehicles. Earlier phases of the same lease programme added four 4×4 pickup vans and three double‑cab 4×4 trucks. The mayor presented the new machines as a model for other Greek municipalities seeking to modernise their services.

The equipment is intended to improve street cleaning, waste collection and overall municipal service quality across Kalamata and its surrounding villages.
