Kalamata parents protest school nurse shortages

The Association of Parents and Guardians of Kalamata Municipality has issued a formal protest regarding critical shortages of school nurses in the region. Currently, only 8 of the 14 required nursing positions in Kalamata are filled.

This shortage has forced nurses to move between different schools, leaving children who require daily medical support without coverage on certain days of the week. The Association noted that the lack of consistent care places a significant burden on families, as parents are often forced to miss work or stay at school to provide care themselves. Furthermore, the situation impacts educators who are unable to substitute for specialized medical personnel.

The Association is calling on the Ministry of Education and relevant authorities to immediately fill all vacancies with permanent staff, ensure continuous support throughout the entire school day, and end the practice of moving nurses between schools, which leaves other students unsupported.
