Kalamata port hosts two of the world's largest mega yachts

Two of the world’s largest superyachts, the ‘Blue’ and the ‘Hadar’, are docked at the port of Kalamata and are expected to remain there throughout the winter season.

The ‘Blue’, measuring approximately 160 meters and valued at over $600 million, is reportedly owned by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The ‘Hadar’, measuring 136 meters and formerly known as ‘Flying Fox’, is also among the largest private vessels globally.

Maritime tourism expert Harry Vgenis noted that the presence of these vessels provides significant economic benefits to the region. Mooring fees alone could reach approximately €100,000 by May. Additionally, the long-term stay of dozens of crew members stimulates the local economy through spending on accommodation, dining, entertainment, and daily supplies.

While the Kalamata port possesses basic infrastructure, such as an electrical substation, experts suggest that further enhancements to port facilities could allow the city to host more mega yachts in the future, shifting the port's focus from commercial traffic toward maritime tourism.
