Kalamata renovates Municipal Stadium Indoor Gymnasium
The renovated Indoor Gymnasium of the Kalamata Municipal Stadium was inaugurated with a blessing ceremony on October 15. The facility's central hall is now dedicated exclusively to volleyball training and matches following significant upgrades.
Key improvements include the installation of new Taraflex flooring, an electronic scoreboard, and renovated locker rooms. The facility has also secured a two-year operating license, a significant improvement over previous short-term permits.
Mayor Thanasis Vasilopoulos stated that upgrading sports infrastructure is a priority to support local clubs and host national, Balkan, and international competitions. The city is also preparing to host the 2026 Balkan Men's Volleyball Championship.
Further municipal projects include a new basketball gymnasium north of the Municipal Stadium with a budget of approximately €1.5 million, a new gymnasium in Giannisanika budgeted at €2.5 million, and a large sports center in Paliambela with a projected budget of €17 million.
