Kalamata Urban Planning Director receives death threats

Stavroula Agriou, the Director of Urban Planning for the Municipality of Kalamata, has received an anonymous letter containing direct death threats and verbal abuse. The sender has linked the threats to the handling of building permit applications in the Western Mani region, specifically demanding changes to how construction cases are managed within an 800-meter zone. The letter also includes threats against other employees, the Mayor, and a Minister, setting a deadline of October 31.

Kalamata Mayor Thanasis Vasilopoulos has strongly condemned the intimidation, stating that no public official or elected representative should face threats for performing their duties. He emphasized that the protection of employees and the free exercise of their functions are matters of democracy and respect for institutions. The Kalamata Security Sub-directorate has been notified to investigate the matter and identify the sender.
