Kalamata's Sports Landscape Shifts with Football Stadium Renovation and Basketball Team Merger
The football club of Kalamata is set to resume playing at its traditional beach stadium after renovation work, targeting early October for a return. While the venue remains a construction site, the team will use the Th. Kolokotronis ground for its opening league match and has an agreement with Asteras to share the stadium if needed.
In parallel, Kalamata’s basketball scene is consolidating as Kalamata BC and Kalamata ’80 have officially merged. The new club will compete in the National League 2 for the 2026‑27 season, backed by a wild‑card entry, and will also field a U23 side in the A1 ENASKENOP division. Management is assembling a coaching staff and outlining the project’s sporting plan, aiming to raise the city’s profile in national basketball competitions.
