Kalasin provincial election monitored by Election Commission
The Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) is monitoring the Kalasin Provincial Administrative Organization president election to ensure a transparent, neutral, and fair process. ECT Secretary-General Sawaeng Boonmee visited Kalasin to observe voting at several polling stations and oversee the management of the 1,668 polling units across the province.
There are 786,161 eligible voters in Kalasin, covering 18 districts. The provincial authorities have set a voter turnout goal of 70%, while the ECT considers a turnout between 60% and 65% to be a very good result for a single-position local election without advance voting.
Sawaeng noted that preparations regarding personnel and budget are complete. He addressed the legal implications of a ‘No Vote’ outcome, stating that if ‘No Vote’ ballots exceed those of the winner, a new election must be organized with new candidates. Additionally, he discussed the need for legal amendments before implementing new technologies or applications to assist polling officials in future elections.
