Kalavryta students explore Greek Shadow Theatre tradition

Students from Kalavryta Primary School participated in an educational program focused on the tradition of Greek Shadow Theatre. The initiative was held at the Stone Building in the center of Kalavryta as part of the exhibition ‘100 Years of Karagiozis – From the Mantes to the Museum’.

Organized in collaboration with the Museum of Modern Greek Culture, the 90-minute program for each group combined exhibition tours with interactive elements such as games, riddles, observation, crafts, and creative activities. Through this experiential learning, students explored the history, characters, and repertoire of Shadow Theatre, as well as the specific role of the puppeteer.

Kalavryta Mayor Thanasis Papadopoulos stated that tradition gains value and continuity when passed down through generations, noting that the goal of these summer and autumn actions is for children to discover and love the world of Shadow Theatre. The exhibition remains open to the public until the end of October, documenting the evolution of the art form from the late 19th century to the present day.
