Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme activates water pumping and announces barrage repairs
Pumping operations under the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) have commenced to transfer Godavari water into the Ananthagiri and Ranganayaka Sagar reservoirs. The activation of these motors follows requests from BRS leader T. Harish Rao to utilize available river flows to replenish depleted reservoirs and support regional irrigation needs.
At the Annapurna Pumphouse, two pumps are lifting approximately 6,400 cusecs of water, while two pumps at the Ranganayaka Sagar Pumphouse are lifting around 6,600 cusecs. These operations aim to address low water levels in reservoirs linked to the project.
Separately, Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy announced that repair work on three damaged KLIS barrages at Medigadda, Annarm, and Sundilla is scheduled to begin in mid-November. The rehabilitation project, which aims to restore safety and operational reliability, is expected to be completed before the 2027 monsoon. The repair designs, which include foundation strengthening and the construction of new cutoff walls, are currently undergoing technical validation and will be presented to the Central Water Commission technical oversight committee on October 5.
