Kali Linux releases 2026.3 update with Kernel 7.1.5
Offensive Security has released Kali Linux 2026.3, the third rolling snapshot of the year. This update introduces several significant technical upgrades, most notably the transition to Linux kernel 7.1.5 and an overhaul of the distribution’s image-building scripts.
The new build scripts implement a container-first approach, allowing users to build official images using Docker or Podman via a new build-in-container.sh helper. This standardization aims to provide more consistent structure and command-line behavior across different platforms, though developers noted the transition will continue into the 2026.4 release.
Desktop environment updates include KDE Plasma 6.7, which brings improved Wayland protocol support, per-screen virtual desktops, and optimized performance for Intel integrated graphics. Additionally, the release includes six new penetration testing tools: Dalfox (an XSS scanner), Katana (a web crawling framework), qsreplace (a URL query string tool), rustscan (a fast port scanner), sdrangel (an SDR management front-end), and snaffler-ng (an SMB share scanner).
NetHunter also received upgrades, including new wardriving capabilities via TicWatch smartwatches.
