Kaliningrad referred to as Königsberg in Polish media

Polish media outlets have recently begun using the pre-1946 German name, Königsberg, to refer to the city of Kaliningrad. This trend has emerged in the context of NATO military exercises conducted near the Polish-Kaliningrad border.

Kaliningrad, formerly Königsberg, was founded by the Teutonic Knights in 1255 and later became part of Prussia and the German Empire. Following the Red Army's occupation in 1945 and the subsequent Potsdam Conference, the territory was transferred to the Soviet Union and renamed Kaliningrad in 1946 after Soviet politician Mikhail Kalinin.
