Kalka-Shimla railway partially resumes after landslide damage
Operations have partially resumed on the Kalka-Shimla railway line, a UNESCO World Heritage site, following a week-long suspension caused by landslides. The service is currently running on the Dharampur-to-Shimla stretch.
Torrential rainfall recently triggered a landslide near Parwanoo in the Solan district, washing away soil beneath the heritage tracks. While repairs are ongoing, direct train services from Kalka remain suspended. To reach the active segment, travelers are currently using road transport as a detour between Kalka and Dharampur.
The initial closure resulted in the cancellation of six passenger services, impacting local tourism-dependent businesses. Despite the detour, tourists have expressed relief and enthusiasm regarding the partial resumption of the scenic journey.
