Kalliamanis and Pagoni clash over medical inspection integrity

A heated debate occurred on ERTnews between Giorgos Kalliamanis and Martina Pagoni regarding the reliability of medical inspections. The confrontation was prompted by the death of singer Giorgos Mazonakis at a clinic in Kolonaki.

Kalliamanis, an honorary president of a police union, argued that the current system of medical inspections is flawed because unionized doctors are elected by the very professionals they are tasked to oversee. He suggested that this creates a conflict of interest, stating, “it is irrational” for elected officials to investigate their own voters, and questioned whether citizens could feel safe under such oversight.

Pagoni, representing the Panhellenic Medical Association, strongly rejected these claims, accusing Kalliamanis of insulting the medical profession. She argued that his comments implied all doctors are unscrupulous simply because they are union members, stating, “I do not allow you to touch the medical profession in this way.”
