Kallpa's Sunny solar plant completes first year of operation in Peru
The Sunny Photovoltaic Solar Plant, operated by Kallpa Generación in La Joya, Arequipa, has completed its first year of commercial operation. During this period, the facility produced 796.9 GWh of non-conventional renewable energy, accounting for 26.4% of Peru's total solar energy production.
The plant has an installed capacity of 341 MW and utilizes over 540,000 photovoltaic modules. It is notable for being the first solar plant in the country to employ a specialized cleaning system consisting of 729 robots that clean modules at night. This robotic technology is designed to increase productivity and energy generation levels while avoiding the use of water.
Kallpa's broader portfolio includes a total installed capacity of 2.6 GW, comprising the Sunny plant alongside three hydroelectric plants, two natural gas combined-cycle plants, and a battery storage system.
