Kalofere cult investigation reveals decade of occult rituals
Bulgarian authorities and the State Agency for National Security (DANS) are investigating an occult community located near Kalofere that has reportedly operated for at least ten years. The group, allegedly led by a Spanish shaman, consists of at least 14 Bulgarian and foreign nationals.
Local residents and the former mayor of Kalofere, Rumen Stoyanov, described unusual activities at the remote property, including members wearing white robes, performing naked rituals, and using drums. There are allegations that followers provided significant sums of money and even apartments to join the brotherhood. Social anthropologist Harlan Alexandrov noted that such groups often attract individuals seeking to escape modern society through spiritual practices and psychedelic intoxication.
The owner of the settlement has been detained on charges related to the possession and distribution of suspected narcotics. During the police operation, authorities seized a dark liquid and mushrooms believed to be psychoactive substances used during rituals. Investigations are ongoing to determine the group's financial structures and the full extent of their illegal activities.
