Kalshi issues lifetime ban to George Santos for market manipulation

The prediction market platform Kalshi has issued its first-ever lifetime ban against former U.S. Representative George Santos. The disciplinary action follows an investigation into allegations of insider trading and market manipulation.

Kalshi found that Santos engaged in a scheme to profit from contracts tied to his own attendance at President Donald Trump’s 2026 State of the Union address. According to the platform, Santos placed large trades between February 2 and February 25, making public statements—some of which were described as false or misleading—to influence the price of 'Yes' and 'No' contracts. By wagering on an outcome he could personally influence, Santos reportedly earned a profit of approximately $17,839.

In addition to the lifetime ban, Kalshi imposed a $71,356 penalty on Santos. This follows a separate settlement with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), which had previously ordered Santos to pay over $35,000 and imposed a three-year trading ban for similar activities. Santos has responded to the ban on social media, criticizing the platform.

The enforcement action highlights increasing scrutiny of prediction markets regarding market integrity, conflicts of interest, and the use of non-public information.
