Kalshi's US Prediction Market Hits $5B Weekly Volume as Regulators Clash
Kalshi's prediction‑market platform recorded a new weekly peak of over $5 billion in trading volume, driven largely by sports‑related contracts tied to the FIFA World Cup. The company has also rolled out an internal AI system, named "Harrison," to help select new market contracts and assess risk before launch.
The surge coincides with a regulatory dispute: New Mexico sued Kalshi over its sports contracts, alleging violations of state gambling rules, while the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) defends federal oversight of prediction markets. Gaming groups have urged the U.S. Senate to bar sports contracts from such platforms in the CLARITY Act, claiming the industry has lost about $1.08 billion in state tax revenue.
In addition, Kalshi entered the crypto perpetual‑futures space, generating $5.5 billion in volume within two weeks of launching Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP and Solana contracts. The firm plans to expand perpetual futures beyond digital assets, targeting additional asset classes while navigating ongoing CFTC review.
