Kalshi orders influencer posts removed amid LA mayor race betting controversy

Prediction markets for the Los Angeles mayoral race saw massive trading activity, with Kalshi recording more than $78 million in volume and roughly 75 % of that tied to reality‑TV star Spencer Pratt. The company and competitor Polymarket hired paid social‑media influencers, spending at least $350,000 to promote the contracts and drive traffic.

After Pratt’s odds fell sharply, Kalshi instructed several influencers to delete posts that claimed the election was being manipulated. A Kalshi spokesperson said, “We've asked these to be taken down, as they violate our affiliate marketing policies.” Influencers such as Gunther Eagleman and Kangmin Lee had linked to the markets while alleging ballot‑count fraud, sparking debate over the mix of political commentary and paid promotion in prediction markets.
