Kalshi to seek CFTC approval for WTI crude oil perpetual futures
Kalshi is reportedly preparing to seek approval from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) for a perpetual West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil futures contract. The filing is expected as early as next week.
If approved, the product would be the first WTI perpetual futures contract available on a regulated U.S. exchange. Unlike conventional futures contracts that have specific expiration dates, these perpetual contracts would have no fixed expiry, allowing traders to hold positions indefinitely without the need to roll them over. The proposed contracts would trade 24 hours a day, five days a week.
This move is part of Kalshi’s strategy to expand its offerings beyond event contracts, cryptocurrencies, and metals into broader asset classes. The company has previously received CFTC approval for Bitcoin perpetual contracts and has submitted filings for equity index, metals, foreign exchange, and interest-rate perpetuals.
