Kalyan Banerjee protests rebel TMC MPs in Indian Parliament
On July 30, 2026, suspended Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee staged a protest at the Parliament complex’s Makar Dwar, accusing about 20 TMC lawmakers of betraying West Bengal voters by joining the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) and supporting the NDA. He displayed placards with the dissenting MPs’ photographs, labeling them “traitors,” and criticised his own suspension for speaking out, saying he was denied a hearing.
During the protest, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra examined the placards and exchanged remarks with Banerjee, including the comment, “You took them from Congress to TMC.” Banerjee also praised Gandhi’s parliamentary speech. The Trinamool Congress has filed a petition under the anti‑defection law seeking action against the rebel MPs. In related remarks, Priyanka Gandhi called for Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s presence in the House, underscoring the broader opposition‑government standoff.
