Kalyan Raj Sharma outlines priorities for Nepal-China ambassadorship
Kalyan Raj Sharma, the proposed ambassador to China, has outlined his diplomatic priorities during a parliamentary hearing in Kathmandu. Sharma stated his primary objective is to foster an environment that provides tangible benefits to the Nepali people and government while maintaining political trust with China and upholding the ‘One China’ policy.
A central focus of his agenda is enhancing connectivity and transit through the implementation of existing agreements. Sharma aims to expedite access to four Chinese seaports—Tianjin, Shenzhen, Lianyungang, and Zhanjiang—and three dry ports in Lanzhou, Lhasa, and Shigatse to facilitate third-country imports and exports.
To boost economic ties, Sharma proposed a strategy of ‘Made in Nepal, branded in Nepal, sold in China’ to increase the presence of Nepali products, such as processed buffalo meat and citrus fruits, in the Chinese market. He also pledged to monitor priority infrastructure projects, including the Rasuwagadhi Bridge and the Araniko Highway, to improve regional trade and tourism.
