Kamal Haasan marks 67 years in the film industry

Veteran actor Kamal Haasan has marked 67 years in the film industry, reflecting on his extensive career via social media. He noted that while his career spans more than half of cinema’s recorded history—which dates back approximately 130 years to the Lumière brothers’ first public screening in 1895—he considers only about 20 of those years to be a period of genuine learning.

Haasan, who began his journey as a child artist in the 1960 film ‘Kalathur Kannamma’ and received a President’s Gold Medal for the role, described the remainder of his time in the industry as moving along with the flow of circumstances. He humorously referred to himself as perhaps the “oldest Gen Z” in the film world.

His career has spanned multiple Indian languages, including Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam. His most recent film release was ‘Thug Life’ in 2025, and he has upcoming projects involving collaborations with directors Anbariv and Nelson.
