Kamala Harris backs LA mayoral candidate as Democrats push her for governor

Vice President Kamala Harris publicly endorsed Karen Bass in the Los Angeles mayoral race, praising Bass for reducing crime and homelessness. Harris made the endorsement while remaining silent on the closely watched California gubernatorial primary.

At the same time, a group of California Democrats argued that Harris should forgo any White House aspirations and instead run for governor, saying the state needs a strong Democratic ticket to break the Republican hold on the office.
