Kamala Harris campaigns for Mississippi Senate candidate Scott Colom
Former Vice President Kamala Harris appeared at a Democratic rally in Columbus, Mississippi, to support Senate candidate Scott Colom in his challenge against incumbent Republican Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith. During the event held at a local high school gymnasium, Harris delivered a motivational message regarding ambition and capacity that received a subdued response from the crowd, prompting her to repeat the phrasing to elicit more engagement.
Colom, a former state district attorney, is running as a “commonsense Democrat.” In a recent interview, he expressed support for border security and Second Amendment rights, while also criticizing the rise of “celebrity politicians.” If elected, Colom would become the first Democrat elected to the Senate from Mississippi in approximately four decades and the first Black politician elected statewide in the state since the Reconstruction era. Currently, Senator Hyde-Smith holds a three-point advantage in the race.
