Kamala Harris Endorses Incumbent Karen Bass in Los Angeles Mayoral Race

Vice President Kamala Harris publicly backed Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass for a second term, praising her record on homelessness and public safety. Harris said, “Mayor Karen Bass is the leader Los Angeles needs right now,” citing the city’s first two‑year decline in homelessness and a drop in crime to levels not seen since the 1960s.

Bass leads in recent polling but remains below the 50 % threshold needed to avoid a runoff in the June 2 election. The race features several challengers, including Democratic city‑councilmember Nithya Raman, housing advocate Rae Chen Huang, tech entrepreneur Adam Miller, and reality‑TV star Spencer Pratt, who is backed by Republican figures. If no candidate reaches a majority, the top two will face each other in a November runoff.

Bass also highlighted endorsements from Senators Adam Schiff, Representative Nancy Pelosi and nine city‑council members, while she thanked Harris for swearing her in after her 2022 election.
