Kamala Harris Leads Democratic 2028 Primary Polls Over Gavin Newsom

A series of recent national surveys place former Vice President Kamala Harris well ahead of California Governor Gavin Newsom in the 2028 Democratic presidential field. An Echelon Insights poll conducted July 9‑13 shows Harris ahead by seven points, while a Quantus Insights poll from July 3‑7 gives her an 18‑point margin and 35% support among Democratic voters. Newsom consistently trails in the mid‑teens, receiving roughly 15‑20% in those polls.

Earlier in May, an Emerson College poll had Pete Buttigieg ahead of Newsom and Harris lagging, but subsequent surveys have firmly positioned Harris at the top. Analysts note that early polling reflects name‑recognition more than eventual outcomes but can shape perceptions of candidate viability as the race develops.
