Kamala Harris says she has not decided on a 2028 presidential run

Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, who lost the 2024 presidential election to Donald Trump, told reporters at a National Urban League event in Nashville, Tennessee, that she has not yet made a decision about running for president in 2028. She said her current focus is on the 2026 midterm elections, urging Democrats to achieve record voter turnout to prevent what she described as possible Republican manipulation of the vote.

Harris noted that several Democrats are being mentioned as potential 2028 contenders, including California Governor Gavin Newsom and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, while Republicans are eyeing figures such as Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. In the same remarks she floated policy ideas that could be revisited if Democrats regain control of Congress, such as reforming the Electoral College, expanding the Supreme Court, and granting statehood to Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico.

The comments come as the Democratic Party prepares for the upcoming congressional elections, and Harris remains the first woman to have served as U.S. vice president.
