Kamala Harris visits Louisiana to advocate for voting rights

Kamala Harris visited New Orleans to address voting rights and congressional representation, framing the issue as a critical test for Democratic voter mobilization in the South ahead of midterm elections. Her visit follows the Supreme Court ruling in Louisiana v. Callais, which eliminated the state’s second majority-Black congressional district and limited legal protections under Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act.

Harris criticized the ruling, stating it threatens Black political representation. The visit coincided with the Louisiana Democratic Party’s annual fundraiser and an organizing tour focused on voter registration and civic participation.
